Hamad International Airport at a glance
Hamad International Airport is Doha's airport. The Red Line of the Doha Metro links it with the city, and the station is called Hamad International Airport T1. Taxis leave from a pavilion in the arrivals hall. Which one suits you depends on where you sleep, how much luggage you carry and what time you land.
This is an independent site. It is not run by the airport, an airline or the Metro operator. Prices are in Qatari riyals (QAR), with dollar values rounded at 1 US dollar to 3.64 QAR, as listed in 2026. Timetables and fares change, so check the current ones before you travel.

From the airport into town
The options side by side.
| Option | Where | What is listed |
|---|---|---|
| Doha Metro, Red Line | Station Hamad International Airport T1 | Standard day fare capped at QAR 6 ($2). Metro runs Saturday to Thursday 05:00โ01:00 and from 09:00 on Friday, according to a map printed in January 2025 |
| Karwa taxi, walk-up | Taxi pavilion at the left end of the arrivals hall, follow the sign "Taxi" | A base amount of QAR 25 ($7) plus distance and time, according to a secondary source |
| Karwa taxi, pre-booked | Karwa app or phone 800 8294 | โ |
| Metro plus Metrolink | Red Line to Legtaifiya, then the free feeder | For The Pearl, see the guide |
Treat the taxi amount as a rough guide, because the fare also depends on distance and time. For West Bay, The Pearl and Lusail, ask for the fare in the app or at the pavilion.
Doha tours from the airport
City tours with airport pickup, layover tours and transfers, with live prices and availability.
Getting to your hotel
Two examples, not a rule for every address.
Msheireb and the old centre
A hotel in Msheireb names about 25 minutes from the airport. That figure is for this hotel and depends on traffic. By Metro, Msheireb is the shared interchange of the Red, Green and Gold lines, which makes it a good first stop. From there the Gold Line reaches Souq Waqif.
Metro guide โThe Pearl and the northern coast
A resort on The Pearl names 29 km and 30 minutes from the airport. That is the distance to this one hotel. The Pearl operator suggests the Metro to Legtaifiya and the free Metrolink for the last part.
The Pearl guide โParking and pick-ups
If someone collects you by car, agree on a meeting point before you land and check the posted car park rates.
Book a private transfer from Hamad International Airport (DOH) to your hotel in Doha at a fixed price on Kiwitaxi.
Luggage, transit and stopovers
What to plan if you have only a few hours or days.
Luggage storage
A travel site updated in July 2026 says no luggage storage is currently available at the airport. Do not plan a day out around leaving a bag. Carry what you need in your hand luggage.
City tour from the transit desk
The Transit Exclusive city tour is listed at QAR 115 ($32) for 3 hours. It needs at least 6 hours between your arrival and your departure. The desk is in Duty Free Plaza South, behind the escalators between Concourses A and B. Be there 90 minutes before the tour starts and plan for 60 minutes before boarding when you return. Daily bookings carry no seat guarantee.
Qatar Airways stopover programme
The programme lists layovers of 12โ96 hours and up to 4 hotel nights, with a confirmed ticket and availability as conditions. The standard package starts at $14 per person for 1 night in a shared double room. It is not $14 per room, and not every ticket qualifies. Checked bags cannot be collected on transits under 24 hours, so pack what you need into your hand luggage.
Stopover guide โTransit visa for those who need one
Qatar Airways passengers with at least 6 hours of transit who want a transit tour can apply at the tour provider's desk. The provider lists QAR 100 ($27). This is not a free visa for everyone. Staying inside the transit area is a separate case from leaving it.
Entry at the airport
Tourist entry with a regular passport. Rules differ by country.
Germany, Austria and Switzerland
The Ministry of Interior lists all three for a free tourist visa on arrival: 90 days in total, multiple entries, valid for 180 days and not extendable. The passport must be valid for 6 months, and you need a confirmed onward or return ticket. Austria asks in addition for a booking confirmation, proof of funds and, above 30 days, health insurance. A general tourism source names 3 months of passport validity, so plan for 6 months. Provisional passports need a visa in advance.
United States
The Qatari ministry lists a visa valid for 2 years, up to 90 days per stay, for a one-off fee of $21 (QAR 76), with a passport valid for at least 3 months. US travel guidance of 1 October 2026 names only 90 days of validity and 6 months of passport validity. The two sources disagree, so ask your airline or the Qatari authorities before you fly. A return ticket and an address in Qatar are required.
Check the situation before you fly
The German Federal Foreign Office advises against travel to Qatar, as of 20 October 2026, in force since 4 September 2026. It names the risk of wider fighting and possible airspace closures. Austria lists security level 3. Read the advice of your own government and check your flight status.
