Katara Cultural Village at a glance

Katara is a cultural district on the coast between West Bay and The Pearl. It has the Katara Mosque, the Gold Mosque, an amphitheatre and galleries. The Katara Hills, green areas with paths, lie to the north and south of the village. A street lined with columns is part of the village.

The beach is a separate part of a visit and works on seasonal rules. The prices and hours below come from a report on the summer of 2026. They are not a promise for every day, so check them on arrival.

Katara Beach: hours, prices and rules

Based on the report of 4 June 2026. Not confirmed for October.

Opening hours

From 1 June 2026 the report lists the beach daily from 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Swimming and water sports are allowed only from 3:30 p.m. until sunset. The evening opening is for the beach itself and does not mean swimming at night.

Prices

The summer report lists adults at QAR 10 (about $3). Chairs and umbrellas cost QAR 5 (about $1) each. Entry is free for children under 15, seniors over 60, people with disabilities, carers and domestic workers. Water sports participants pay no beach entry. This is a seasonal notice, not a confirmed October tariff.

Old prices

Articles from 2020 quote QAR 50 for adults and QAR 25 for teenagers when paid entry was introduced. Those figures are old and not a current price list.

What to bring

Bring sun protection and water, and cover shoulders and knees on the way to and from the sand. Check the signs at the entrance for the swimwear rules.

Mosques and amphitheatre

Visit with care.

The mosques

The Katara Mosque and the Gold Mosque are places of worship. Dress modestly, keep your voice low and follow the signs and staff. Rules for entering are not the same everywhere, so ask at the entrance before you go in.

The amphitheatre

The amphitheatre hosts events, and the programme changes. Look for a notice of the current schedule at the village or online before you plan an evening around it.

The galleries

Galleries have their own hours and exhibitions. A walk through the streets takes less time than a visit with several galleries, so decide before you arrive how many you want to see.

When to go

The heat decides the time of day.

Visit Qatar lists October to May as the general season for outdoor activities. In summer, heat and coastal humidity are high, so plan the village walk and the Katara Hills for the evening. The beach report for summer 2026 opens the sand only from 3:30 p.m., which fits that pattern. The weather guide shows average temperatures by month.

Getting there and what to combine

Katara sits on the Red Line.

Take the Red Line to the Katara station. The Metro runs from 9 a.m. on Fridays and from 5 a.m. on the other days of the week, according to the printed map of January 2025. A taxi also works from West Bay and The Pearl. The dhow sunset cruise listed in 2026 passes Katara on its route and starts and ends at The Pearl, so you can see the village from the water too.

Katara Cultural Village: frequently asked questions

Take the Red Line to the Katara station. Check the current timetable before you go, as Friday hours start later.
