The Corniche at a glance
The Corniche follows the curve of Doha Bay for about 7 km, according to the national tourism pages. It is a place to walk with the bay beside you and the skyline in view. The walk works at any hour that is not too hot.
Two things are often mixed up here. Walking the promenade is one activity, and a dhow cruise is another. A cruise is a booked boat trip, and the one listed below starts at The Pearl and not at the promenade. Both are explained below.

Walking the Corniche
Plan around the heat and pick the stretch you want.
Choose your hour
Early morning and the hours before sunset are the usual times for a long walk. In summer, heat and coastal humidity are strong, and Visit Qatar recommends shade, sun protection and plenty of fluids.
MIA Park
The park next to the Museum of Islamic Art is open 24 hours, according to the museum. The museum itself keeps its own hours and a weekly closing day. Do not apply the park's times to the galleries. See the Museum of Islamic Art guide.
Dress and manners
Visit Qatar recommends that men and women keep their shoulders and knees covered in public areas.
Parking and closures
The MIA car park has limited spaces, which fill quickly at weekends. When there is a big event in the park, the museum car park closes. Do not count on finding a space on a busy day.

Dhow boats and cruises
The dhow is the traditional wooden boat of the Gulf. A published example of an organised trip is a dhow sunset cruise at QAR 150 ($41) for 2 hours, every day. It runs from 16:00 to 18:00 from October to February and from 17:00 to 19:00 from March to September.
That cruise begins and ends at The Pearl and passes Katara, West Bay, the Corniche and the Mina District. Do not book it expecting to board at the Corniche. The operator says you must be able to climb in and out of the boat unaided and calls the trip unsuitable for wheelchair users. If you negotiate with a boat at the harbour instead, no standard price is published. Agree the price, the length and the route before you step on board.

Walk, park or boat: how the options differ
Three separate things share the waterfront.
| Option | Time | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Promenade walk | Any hour, heat permitting | About 7 km in total. Walk as much as you like. |
| MIA Park | 24 hours | The museum has its own hours and a weekly closing day. |
| Dhow sunset cruise | 2 hours, 16:00 to 18:00 in winter | QAR 150 ($41). Starts and ends at The Pearl. |

What to combine with the Corniche
The Souq Waqif is on the Gold Line and is busier after 16:00, so it makes a good evening after a late afternoon walk. Read the Souq Waqif guide for the Falcon Souq and evening visits. The Msheireb Museums are free to enter, open 09:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday, 15:00 to 21:00 on Friday, and closed on Sunday.
Katara Cultural Village lies between West Bay and The Pearl, with the Red Line station Katara. Our where to stay guide shows which districts put you within reach of the waterfront.
